I have been helping students improve their English and communication skills for over 25 years. I love teaching and languages because they are about connecting with the world and the people in it.
I began my career working with young homeless people and care leavers, then moved into drama teaching. My belief in active learning and passion for language, literature and communication has continued to grow.
Living and teaching in Spain gave me the opportunity to further develop skills in English language teaching.
I understand the school system in England and Spain. I understand the role that exams play in our society. They are not the most effective or only way of assessing and learning but I recognise that you might need a certain grade to move on in employment or training and I can work with you to achieve it.
I have lived in Spain, and I know the challenges of learning a foreign language as an adult. Delivering classes to adults in Spain, I enjoyed building relationships and getting to know people; it is so enriching. Language learning is not only about a grade, it is about communicating and engaging with the world.
It can also develop cognitive skills, uncover new ways of thinking and change perceptions. It can develop communication, problem solving and information sorting skills. I approach my teaching with empathy and a sense of fun. I am conscientious; spending time making sure the classes are what you need.
